Nederland considers applying for Texas Emergency Mortgage Assistance Program.
The city of Nederland is considering submitting an application to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs for funding through its Texas Emergency Mortgage Assistance Program, reports City Manager Chris Duque. The city could request $500,000 for mortgage assistance to income-eligible households impacted by COVID-19 to help ensure housing stability during the pandemic if there is enough public interest in the program. It is intended only for mortgage assistance, not rental assistance.
The city will hold a workshop to discuss the application on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 5:15 p.m. at the Nederland City Hall, located at 207 N. 12th St. Anyone interested in participating in this program is invited to attend. For eligible candidates, the program could pay up to six consecutive months of all or part of a household’s mortgage payments, including mortgage arrears, with at least one of those months covering a future monthly mortgage payment. To qualify, applicants must be below 80% of the area median income.
According to Duque, “The city must determine the demand for this program and assistance before deciding whether to apply or not.”
