Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA) of Southeast Texas announced May 17 that it received a $20,000 grant from the Texas Bar Foundation.
Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $24 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation's largest charitably-funded bar foundation.
CASA volunteers donate their time to help children in foster care and make recommendations in their charges’ best interests to judges. Volunteers are teachers, business people, retirees, stay-at-home moms, grandparents, college students and other “extraordinary people who want to make certain the voices of children who have experienced abuse are heard,” reports the organization. Being a CASA does not require a specialized degree or legal experience.
According to the nonprofit grant recipient, “CASA of Southeast Texas Inc. is honored to receive a $20,00 grant from the Texas Bar Foundation. This grant will help provide funding for an additional Volunteer Coordinator. This grant will also help CASA of Southeast Texas Inc. continue its’ pursuit of safe and permanent homes for abused and neglected children in Jefferson County. A sincere thanks to the Texas Bar Foundation for extending this valuable gift to our organization. We are very grateful.”
