Acadian Ambulance celebrates 54 years

Sept. 1, Acadian Ambulance marked its 54th anniversary. Founded in 1971, the company has grown from a small operation with two ambulances and eight medics into a multistate enterprise providing emergency and non-emergency medical care, air services, and a wide range of health, safety and security solutions, according to a news release.

Acadian Ambulance operates facilities in Beaumont, Silsbee, Kountze, and Vidor.

The company was established by Richard Zuschlag, Richard Sturlese, and Roland Dugas in response to a critical need for professional ambulance services. At the time, new federal regulations had prompted many funeral homes to discontinue the use of hearses for patient transport.

“Celebrating 54 years is a testament to the hard work and dedication of every single employee-owner who has contributed to our mission,” said CEO H. Eddy Dupuis. “We continue to build on our legacy of compassion, innovation, and unwavering commitment to the communities we serve. We’ve grown and adapted as a vital part of the health care system, and are ready to respond 24/7.”

Over the decades, Acadian Ambulance has reportedly strived for EMS innovation, improving patient outcomes and expanding its services. Company-celebrated milestones include:

• Pioneering air medical services with Acadian Air Med

• Launching the National EMS Academy to address paramedic shortages

• Developing advanced safety and security solutions through Safety Management Systems and Acadian Total Security

• Expanding into at-home health care with Acadian Health

Today, Acadian Ambulance is the largest employee-owned ambulance service in the nation, providing transportation and medical services in Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

The company is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services and is an active member of the American Ambulance Association, which advocates for the future of mobile health care through education, leadership, and policy initiatives. Acadian Air Med also holds accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems.
