The Beaumont City Council presented a proclamation to ExxonMobil and MD Anderson in recognition of “Be Well Beaumont Day,” which is Saturday, Jan. 31. The presentation was during the Jan. 6 council meeting.

“Be Well Beaumont,” is an initiative of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center sponsored by ExxonMobil. This is a 10-year, $10 million program aiming to mobilize communities to promote wellness and stop cancer before it starts.

The initiative will kick off later with an initial focus on healthy eating and active living.

According to the Beaumont Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), “Be Well Beaumont Day,” will be held 10 a.m to 1 p.m at the Lamar University Recreation Center, 4405 Jimmy Simmons Blvd.

The celebration is a free, family-friendly event dedicated to promoting health and wellness in our community. The event will feature interactive fitness demonstrations and games for all ages, live performances by local groups, and community resources and giveaways from local vendors.

Be Well Beaumont Day is hosted in collaboration with Gift of Life and all Steering Committee members.

“We’re incredibly proud to launch ‘Be Well Beaumont,’” said ExxonMobil Beaumont Complex Manager Phil Matherne. “It represents our commitment to fostering healthier communities and improving the quality of life for our residents. By working with MD Anderson and local organizations, we want to make a lasting, positive impact on the health and well-being of Beaumont.”

“Cancer prevention is essential to our mission to end cancer. We’re thrilled about the opportunity to collaboratively develop and implement an evidence-based approach that will improve health and lower cancer risk for Beaumont residents,” said Peter W.T. Pisters, M.D., president of MD Anderson. “Every community is different, and the impact of our work is designed to set Beaumont on a new path toward healthier living.”

ExxonMobil and MD Anderson initially joined forces in Baytown when they launched “Be Well Baytown” in 2016.

Together, nearly 8 million pounds of healthy food was distributed to increase opportunities for people to be physically active and provided health resources to the community.
