Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported that state sales tax revenue totaled $3.84 billion in May, 4.1% more than in May 2022. The majority of May sales tax revenue is based on sales made in April and remitted to the agency in May, the comptroller’s office details.

After being awarded $4.3 million as part of the American Rescue Plan's Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund, Nederland City Manager Chris Duque announced Feb. 16, the city is starting a nonprofit partnership grant, the first initiative selected for funding from the award.

BASF TOTAL Petrochemicals announced Feb. 10 that it continues its support of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education in 2021 by distributing more than $40,000 towards STEM programs in Port Arthur, Port Neches-Groves, Bridge City, Nederland and Lumberton school districts.

The Nederland ISD and the Board of Trustees announced Aug. 4 that they have selected a lone finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools. On Monday, Aug. 3, the Board of Trustees unanimously voted to name Dr. Stuart Kieschnick as the lone finalist.

Nederland closes public pool following employee’s COVID-19 diagnosis

Nederland City Manager Chris Duque announced June 24 that the city would be closing the public pool for two weeks following a positive case of COVID-19 of a pool employee.
According to Duque, the city was notified that one of two employees tested on June 21 had tested positive for the virus.

Nederland schools closed due to COVID-19 concerns

The Nederland Independent School District announced March 15 that it would be closing all campuses as a precautionary measure due to concerns in regard to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The school district reports that it plans to resume classes on Monday, March 23.
