The Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce released the winners for the 2005 Spindletop, Man and Woman of the Year Awards.
J.S. Edwards & Sherlock is the recipient of the 2025 Spindletop Award, the Chamber’s highest honor, recognizing outstanding business leadership, innovation and enduring contributions to the economic vitality of Southeast Texas.
Founded on principles of integrity, service, and forward-thinking leadership, J.S. Edwards & Sherlock has served as a cornerstone of the Beaumont business community for decades. As a trusted firm in employee benefits and insurance solutions, the company has not only set a high standard for excellence but has also exemplified the spirit of resilience and partnership that the Spindletop Award was created to honor, according the Chamber.
“For years, J.S. Edwards & Sherlock has been a driving force behind the growth and success of businesses across our region,” said Amy Lovoi, president of the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce. “Their commitment to personalized service, professional excellence, and community investment makes them a true example of what this award represents.”
Beyond its professional accomplishments, J.S. Edwards & Sherlock has shown a deep and sustained dedication to civic involvement, charitable giving, and leadership development throughout Southeast Texas. From mentoring young professionals to supporting nonprofit initiatives, the company’s impact extends far beyond the boardroom.
Legendary broadcaster Al Caldwell is the 2025 Man of the Year. A beloved voice of Southeast Texas for over five decades, Caldwell has become a household name through his work on KLVI News Talk 560, where his wit, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to the community have earned him the title of local icon, the Chamber noted.
Caldwell’s radio career has been defined by authenticity, passion, and a deep love for Beaumont and its people. As host of the long running “Al Caldwell Morning Show,” he has informed, entertained and inspired generations of listeners. But it’s his work off the air — supporting nonprofits, mentoring youth, and shining a spotlight on issues that matter — that truly exemplifies the heart of this year’s honoree.
“Al Caldwell is more than just a radio personality — he’s the voice of our community,” Lovoi said. “Through decades of broadcasting and public service, Al has uplifted this city with his humor, insight, and compassion. We are honored to recognize him as our 2025 Man of the Year.”
Known for his unmatched work ethic and trademark charm, Caldwell’s contributions extend far beyond the microphone. Whether championing local causes or celebrating Beaumont’s triumphs, he has remained a constant source of positivity and pride for the region, according to the Chamber.
Debbie Bando, owner of BANDO’s in Beaumont, is the 2025 Woman of the Year, recognizing her exceptional leadership, community service and entrepreneurial spirit that have made a lasting impact on Southeast Texas.
She has been a pillar of the Beaumont business community for decades. Through her work at BANDO’s — an iconic local business known for its gourmet food, distinctive catering, and warm hospitality — she has combined creativity and passion with a steadfast commitment to excellence. Her dedication has not only elevated the local culinary scene but has also provided support to countless women in business, according to the Chamber.
“Debbie Bando exemplifies what it means to lead with purpose, heart, and integrity,” said Lovoi. “Her contributions go far beyond her business. She is a philanthropist and a true ambassador for Beaumont.
Beyond her professional success, Bando is also known for her tireless volunteer work and unwavering commitment to civic causes. From supporting local schools and charities to enhancing cultural and business development in the region, she continues to uplift the community with generosity.
