DuGood Credit Union announced it will open a new location this fall on the Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) campus. The partnership became official July 25. The collaboration is to equip students with tools for financial success as they prepare for thriving careers, according to LIT officials.
“We are grateful for DuGood Credit Union’s investment in our college and proud to be their partner,” said Dr. Sid Valentine, president of LIT. “This new on-campus branch will provide students with financial access, tools, and education throughout their academic journey and prepare them for when they enter the workforce.”
Citing LIT’s recent growth, new programs, and strong track record of job placement in Southeast Texas, DuGood CEO Clint Wilson described the partnership as an investment in both students and the local community.
“Our area depends on LIT, and we are honored to partner with them,” Wilson said. “This new location is more than just a branch — it’s a resource center that will empower students to take control of their financial futures. LIT is known for producing job-ready graduates that make Southeast Texas a better place. We’re here to complement their mission by providing students with the tools they need to succeed financially. We couldn’t think of a more perfect partnership.”
Wilson noted the financial challenges facing today’s college students and emphasized that DuGood has developed customized solutions to help.
0% interest career loans
As part of the initiative, DuGood will offer a 0% interest “Power On” Loan designed exclusively for LIT students. The loan provides up to $1,500 to eligible graduates or soon-to-be graduates, helping them purchase essential career-related items such as tools, uniforms, or technology.
With no interest, no minimum credit score required, and a 12-month repayment term, the loan will give students a timely financial boost as they transition into their careers.
Supporting student financial wellness
DuGood also announced plans to expand its financial education efforts, offering both in-person and digital learning opportunities. Students will have access to Enrich, an award-winning financial wellness platform used by colleges and universities nationwide.
Through Enrich, students can receive personalized, interactive lessons based on individualized goals and money habits. Topics include budgeting, managing credit, student loan repayment, and more.
In addition, DuGood will host on-campus workshops, events, and one-on-one support tailored to students’ needs.
“At DuGood, we believe financial knowledge is essential to success, no matter your career path,” Wilson said. “By bringing services, tools, and education directly to LIT students, we’re helping them ‘power on’ with confidence into the next chapter of their lives.”
Investing in student success
Adding to the assistance package, DuGood is launching a $10,000 annual scholarship fund for LIT students. Each semester, five students will be awarded $1,000 scholarships to help ease the financial burden of college.
Additionally, DuGood will introduce an LIT-branded debit card and student checking account, allowing students to earn Scholarship Reward Points with every purchase. Points can be redeemed for college expenses.
Student checking accounts will include:
• No account fees.
• No minimum balance or transaction requirements.
• Free access to a nationwide ATM network.
The on-campus DuGood branch will be designed specifically for the LIT community, offering everyday banking services, financial education, and expert support in a welcoming space. The credit union will also engage in campus life by supporting student organizations and sponsoring initiatives.
The DuGood Credit Union LIT branch is scheduled to open in fall 2025.
