AT&T reported Aug. 31 that the company is reaching out to help the Southeast Texas community recover from Hurricane Laura’s impacts by contributing $30,000 to the SETX Civilian Taskforce, an organization focused on providing relief and recovery to those in need following a disaster. According to AT&T, the contribution is meant to enable the task force to support recovery efforts in Jefferson and Orange counties following Hurricane Laura.
The task force is a volunteer organization dedicated to providing relief to those most in need following a disaster.
Leslie Ward, President of AT&T Texas, said, “Our hearts are with the people of Southeast Texas. While we are thankful the area was spared the worst of Hurricane Laura, we are proud to join with the SETX Civilian Taskforce and are committed to helping this community as they work to fully recover from the damage that was done.”
Jon McClellan, Director, External & Legislative Affairs, AT&T Texas, added, “We are proud to support the team of volunteers at the SETX Civilian Taskforce. They are always available to answer the call in this community, and we are honored to support their recovery and relief efforts and help ensure the people of Port Arthur fully recover from any damage caused by Hurricane Laura.”
Texas State Rep. Dade Phelan said, “This community, as always, will come together to work hand-in-hand to fully recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Laura. I appreciate AT&T’s commitment to our community and the commitment of the volunteer taskforce.”
Port Arthur Mayor Thurman Bartie reiterated his appreciation to the community for staying calm and also for complying with evacuation orders.
“We are thankful that our community was spared the worst of this hurricane and I appreciate the way we have supported one another and kept our community safe,” said Bartie. “I also appreciate AT&T for their support today of the SETX Civilian Taskforce which I know will work hard in our community to ensure a full recovery.”
Autumn Brown, founder of the SETX Civilian Taskforce, said, “We appreciate the support today from Rep. Phelan and the contribution from AT&T. While we are thankful the damage to our community was not more severe, our volunteers stand ready to help those most in need as we work to fully recover from the effects of Hurricane Laura.”
