BBB accepting scholarship applications from high school seniors

The Better Business Bureau of Southeast Texas (BBB) is currently accepting scholarship applications from area high school seniors for students who “personify and communicate ethics in the real world,” the BBB announced Jan. 14.

The BBB will award six individual $2,500 scholarships to students who have demonstrated exceptional ethics through community service, personal integrity and academic accomplishments. The BBB initiated the Student of Integrity Scholarship program in 2019, awarding $15,000 in total scholarships. Students attending schools in Chambers, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Newton, Orange or Tyler counties, or on the Bolivar Peninsula, are eligible to apply.

BBB President and CEO Liz Fredrichs stated, “BBB is excited to offer SETX High School seniors pursuing a college career our 2020 Student of Integrity Scholarships. Our goal is to support future leaders that contribute to the social fabric of the local community and uphold integrity in all their dealings. We look forward to this year’s applicants.”

Winners will be selected by independent judges chosen by the BBB. Judges will select the scholarship recipients based on their leadership, contributions to their communities and schools, personal integrity, academic accomplishments, letter of reference and written essay. 

To begin the application process, go online at www.bbb.org/southeast-texas/scholarships/ to review criteria, eligibility and download forms. From there, you can review the scholarship checklist. Before submitting an application, students are advised to review the scholarship rules and regulations at www.bbb.org/southeasttexas/scholarships/about/ to make sure their application meets the scholarship guidelines. Applications must be postmarked or hand-delivered by March 7. Winners will be notified in April and later recognized at the BBB Torch Awards 2020: Big and Bright on May 7 at the Beaumont Civic Center.
