Beaumont Farmers Market is inviting the community to support he local initiative as it participates in the 17th annual Southern Family Farmers and Food Systems Conference, “the biggest small farm and food event in Texas and beyond,” on Aug. 6-8 at San Marcos’ Texas State University.

The conference is billed as the largest gathering of aspiring and established independent family farmers, ranchers, homesteaders and food systems policy activists in the area.

Among the draws to this year’s conference: keynote speaker, Gary Nabhan, author, activist, ethnobiologist; Ray Archuleta, soil scientist featured in “Kiss the Ground” documentary on hand to offer pointers; dozens of vendors serving farmers and ranchers; a silent auction; and networking.
