Nederland ISD Superintendent, Dr. Robin Perez, has announced her plans to resign at the end of June, the district announced June 11.

Dr. Perez served Buna ISD for three years prior to serving the Nederland school district for four years. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree, two Master’s Degrees, and a Doctoral Degree from Lamar University. Dr. Perez started her career in Beaumont ISD and has worked as an administrator in Lumberton ISD, Humble ISD, Buna ISD and Nederland ISD. Her educational experience includes serving as a teacher in special education and mainstream education, high school assistant principal, middle school principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent. Dr. Perez has also served as an adjunct professor in the principal program and superintendent program for the last 10 years.

Dr. Perez has a passion for education. She has been heard saying that she enjoys serving with the Nederland ISD team, and is very appreciative of the opportunities and experiences she had during her time. Dr. Perez has been on medical leave while undergoing treatment for cancer. Due to the seriousness, Perez’s medical team recommended she resign from work. According to Dr. Perez, she is looking forward to the next chapter with future opportunities and spending more time with her family once she is feeling better. Dr. Perez is very thankful for the outpouring of support she has received from the entire Nederland family. As she aggressively fights this illness, she asks that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

During her four years as superintendent at Nederland ISD, Dr. Perez, the Board of Trustees and the community oversaw the passage of one of the largest school bond packages that touches every aspect of the District. She oversaw cultural understanding, new technology and curriculum initiatives, which improved student performance and closed achievement gaps.

Currently, Nederland ISD is recognized as an “A” rated district. Region 5 consists of 33 Districts and three Charter Schools. Nederland ISD is one of five districts that have earned an “A” on State Accountability. Nederland ISD continues to work with students on postsecondary readiness, which is recognized by the Texas Education Agency. TEA’s postsecondary readiness distinction includes factors such as graduation rates, ACT/SAT participation and performance, career and tech graduates, and dual-credit course completion rates.

Under Dr. Perez’s tenure, the District has been fiscally conservative, maintaining a balanced budget for many years, as well as a strong fund balance despite challenges with state and federal funding. Nederland ISD has earned the highest financial rating of Superior Achievement on the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas. Many grants were submitted throughout her four years that increased funding to allow the district to provide programs to meet our student’s individual needs.

Nederland ISD believes in teaching the whole child. The students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular programs and have been successful. During her tenure, the process for elementary academic UIL was spearheaded.

Dr. Perez said, “School success has been all about working together as a team. I have been blessed to work with wonderful people at Nederland ISD. Our teachers, leadership team, and school board deserve all of the credit for working together as a team for the success of our students. The District is in excellent shape and will continue to accomplish great things in the future.”

Speaking on behalf of the Board of Trustees, Board President Micah Mosley praised the Superintendent for her ability to build a strong culture of collaboration both within the district and between the district and the community. “On behalf of the Board, we highly value the progress made in our school system under Superintendent Dr. Robin Perez’s leadership and greatly appreciate her contribution and dedication. Her personal ‘why statement’ is apparent by her unrivaled work ethic. Dr. Perez has been a tireless visionary for NISD, driven by her immense passion and love for educating our students and improving student outcomes. She has focused Nederland ISD administration & staff on identifying and developing the strengths and gifts of every child. Their vision culminated in the single focused goal for all of our students to achieve success beyond high school graduation. Our sincere prayers, best wishes, and appreciation are with Dr. Perez as she heeds the advice of her medical professional team and focuses on beating cancer,” said Board President Mosley.
