Nicholas Phillips, principal of West Brook High School and president of the Nederland Independent School District (NISD) Board of Trustees, has been reelected to a three-year term on the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Board of Directors, representing TASB Region 5. The election was held during the Association’s 2021 Delegate Assembly on Sept. 25 in Dallas.

Phillips has served on the Nederland board for more than 11 years and held several leadership positions. In addition, he is a Leadership TASB graduate (Class of 2015) and Master Trustee.

Before becoming principal at West Brook, a high school in the Beaumont Independent School District (BISD), he previously served BISD as principal at Marshall Middle School and associate principal at West Brook High School. Before moving into administrative roles, Phillips spent seven years teaching World Geography and U.S. History in BISD and Port Arthur Independent School District. He is the 2021-22 Region 5 Outstanding High School Principal of the Year and was the Region 5 Outstanding Middle School Principal of the Year in 2020-21.

Phillips earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Lamar University. He is a member of the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, Association of Texas Professional Educators and Nederland Masonic Lodge.

“I am honored to represent Region 5 as a TASB Director,” Phillips stated. “Texas school boards across the state are committed to supporting the public schools they serve. I look forward to the positive impact TASB and its members will continue to make in the future.”

Nederland ISD Superintendent Dr. Stuart Kieschnick said, “Mr. Phillips is well-qualified to serve as a TASB director. His devotion to public schools in Nederland and across the state has been evident by his service throughout the years. We are honored to have him as part of our board of trustees.”

TASB is a nonprofit association established in 1949 to serve local Texas school boards. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 5.4 million public school students. For more information on TASB, visit tasb.org.
