Christus Health rejuvenates hospital to provide ER in west Beaumont

Western Beaumont’s original hospital facility was in a standstill until last August when Christus Health, a nonprofit health system, took over to renovate the building in August 2024 and had its official grand opening March 18, one day before the hospital opened for patients.

Christus Health West Beaumont is at the former Medical Center of Southeast Texas-Victory Campus on Dowlen Road.

The nearly six-acre campus features medical offices, a 24/7 emergency department, surgical services, specialized procedures, advanced imaging and the latest in orthopedic care, ensuring patients can receive expert treatment close to home.

Christus Health President and CEO Paul Trevino said the renovation represents an investment in more access to emergency care, surgical, diagnostic and physician services in this part of the community.

“As the need for health care grows in Southeast Texas, we continue to expand our services to ensure community residents have access to the innovative, faith-based care they expect and deserve,” he said.  “We know our community has choices as to where they seek care, and our intent is to continue providing easy access to the best physicians close to home.”

Trevino said Christus teams have been working tirelessly to bring the facility back up online.

“We’ve renovated our emergency services, made significant improvements in the operating rooms, installed the latest and greatest surgical technology to be able to provide state of the art surgical services,” he said. “We’ve also added extensive imaging services, MRIs, CTs, to be able to support the overall facility. And, finally, we have physicians, orthopedic surgeons and other physicians based here, so that patients have access to the very best technology possible.”

Trevino said Christus has changed out all the major infrastructure items such as the air conditioning, the equipment and their imaging services.

“We want to offer residents in Beaumont, Port Arthur and beyond access to our health system and the exceptional care we provide,” he said. “As the Southeast Texas community continues to grow, so will we. We are honored to meet this need and continue our mission of expanding the healing ministry of Jesus Christ in this community.”

Practice manager for orthopedics in sports medicine, Kristi Dunkleburger, said the facility will be home to 14 new patient rooms, as well as an X-ray and cast room upstairs.

“We’ve got some great positions, new ideas, perspectives, all of that,” she said. “It’s going to be wonderful here.”

Micah Axton, chief operating officer for Christus Trinity Clinic, said he couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of the Christus Health growth opportunity.

“With this new location in west Beaumont, we are increasing access to our renowned specialists and surgical expertise, ensuring patients receive the highest standard of care,” he added.

The new hospital is connected to the newly opened Christus Orthopedics Sports Medicine Institute.

Christus Health West Beaumont is located at 6025 Metropolitan Dr. and is open 24-hours a day.
