Frontier Rodeo Coffee Co. and Bakery opens in Lumberton

Frontier Rodeo Coffee Co. and Bakery has officially opened its doors in Lumberton. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was Aug. 1.

The store space, located at 133 North LHS Dr., was secured by Coldwell Banker Commercial Arnold and Associates.

Jerry and Beverly Nelson, along with their daughter Kandice Adkins, began an online coffee brand five years ago. With catchy slogans like “Put More Buck in Your Cup” and “The Spirit of the West in Every Cup,” the coffee and merchandise gained a loyal following.

A portion of every online sale supports the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund, which helps professional injured rodeo athletes get back on their feet.

At the helm of the organization is Allie Thomas, a former teacher and coach turned general manager. She helped turn the family’s vision into a full-fledged café experience. From curating the menu to designing the inviting ranch-inspired interior, her personal touch is evident in every detail.

“Everything that was created or designed was based on the true expression of what the Frontier Rodeo stands for,” said Thomas. “Every picture or big item in the shops is actual livestock from the ranch in Freedom, Oklahoma, or actual cowboys that represent Frontier.”

Thomas said the Nelsons both have retail experience.

“My dad and Jerry are business partners in Frontier Rodeo Cattle Co.,” said Thomas. “So, I knew Jerry and the family. The opportunity came to help with the online coffee business, and I took it, and then grew it to storefronts shortly after.”

Frontier Rodeo Coffee Co. serves up a wide range of beverages, from expertly roasted arabica coffee blends to iced refreshers, hot teas, blended drinks, and bottled options. Bagels, biscuits, or avocado toast are also available. Lunch visitors can grab fresh-made sandwiches and salads.

For nearly a year, the Frontier Rodeo Bakery, the family’s privately owned bakery in Kountze, has supplied the coffee shop daily with treats — from oversized cinnamon rolls to gourmet cupcakes, cake pops, cheesecakes, and more.

According to the company’s website, their coffee is made from responsibly sourced 100% Arabica coffee beans and artisan roasted to perfection. Their signature roasts, including the Bareback (light roast), Saddle Bronc (medium roast), and Bull-Rider (medium dark roast), are available in single-serve K-Cups and 12-ounce ground coffee options.

Aside from their coffee, Frontier Rodeo Coffee Co. also sells branded merchandise, including mugs and apparel.

Inside the coffee shop is a saddle on display from World Champion Bull Rider Donnie Gay, an eight-time Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) champion. He is also a member of the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame (1979) and Bull Riding Hall of Fame (2015).

The store is offering a 15% discount to all veterans, police officers, health care professionals, EMS, and teachers. Hours are 6:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The Nelsons’ first storefront was in Columbus, and they plan to continue expanding throughout Texas and Oklahoma.

“We are planning to expand, just not sure where yet,” Thomas added. “We’ll start looking for the next one in a few weeks.”
