Golf event raises more than $180,000 for charities

April 25, employees at the TotalEnergies Port Arthur Platform, in partnership with BASF, volunteered and played in the 23rd Annual Miracle Match for Life Golf Scramble. The event raises money to educate and promote awareness of the need for marrow and blood donors, as well as preventative cancer screenings in Southeast Texas, according to Jillian Fertig, community relations advisor for TotalEnergies.

Hundreds of golfers, volunteers, vendors and spectators gathered at the Bayou Din Golf Course in Jefferson County and raised more than $180,000. Proceeds from the scramble will be donated to three local charities – National Marrow Donor Program Inc, LifeShare Blood Center and the Julie Rogers “Gift of Life” Program.

Over the last 23 years, Miracle Match for Life has raised more than $2 million for the cause. Miracle Match for Life places special emphasis on education and recruitment in African American, Native American and Hispanic communities, where donors and cancer screenings are especially needed. Miracle Match for Life has also made it possible for thousands of medically underserved women and men in Southeast Texas to receive mammograms and prostate cancer screenings through the Julie Rogers “Gift of Life” Program.

In the Gulf Coast region, Miracle Match for Life has inspired more than 5,000 new members to join the National Marrow Donor Program. The program registry has been able to recruit more than 350,000 donors from the Gulf Coast Region to expand vital cellular therapies for patients, thanks to the thousands of dollars in donations and public awareness generated each year by Miracle Match for Life.
