Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas (BHSET) recently announced the hiring of new Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Kathy Degenstein-Gartman RN, MSN, who assumed the duties of the role on April 5.

Kathy is the former Chief Nursing Officer at Abilene Regional Medical Center. With over 25 years of nursing experience, she is “committed to embracing” the mission of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas.

Previously, Kathy was Chief Nursing Officer at Abilene Regional Medical Center for four years and directly responsible for all nursing services, financial management of 12 units, successful leadership through Level 4 Trauma survey, Joint Commission Stroke Certification and ACC Chest Pain Accreditation.

Prior to joining Abilene Regional Medical Center, Kathy presided as the Chief Nursing Officer at the Medical Center of South Arkansas and Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at Longview Regional Medical Center. Kathy has been be affiliated with Big Bend Regional Medical Center and Scenic Mountain Medical Center, as well as Western Arizona Regional Medical Center.

Kathy holds a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from University of Texas at El Paso and earned a Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) from Texas Tech in Lubbock. She is “excited to use her leadership skills and knowledge to make a significant contribution to her community,” the hospital group stated. Along with her husband, Kathy is looking forward to making Southeast Texas home.
