Grateful hearts gathered July 27 as BASF and TotalEnergies awarded more than $80,000 in proceeds from the 21st annual BASF and TotalEnergies Miracle Match for Life Golf Tournament to a trio of local charities.
TotalEnergies Maintenance Manager Chris Kock presented a $27,500 check to Lifeshare Blood Center representatives, who graciously accepted and reminisced on the lives saved by continuous generosity.
“Companies like TotalEnergies and the more than 40 businesses and organizations, 72 teams, and 288 golfers that come together to support these lifesaving efforts, make all the difference,” said Miracle Match for Life Coordinator Jamie Hogge.
An event that has sold out for many years, the Miracle Match for Life tournament is held the last Friday in April at Bayou Din Golf Course and has raised well over $2 million to date. Created in 2002 as a collaborative partnership between BASF and TotalEnergies to help promote awareness and need for bone marrow donors, blood donations and cancer screenings and prevention in Southeast Texas, their efforts have greatly impacted the health and quality of life of hundreds of area residents.
Regina Rogers and Norma Sampson spoke of those tested and treated thanks to the generosity of BASF and TotalEnergies, and their annual donation, as they received a $27,500 check in support of the Julie Rogers “Gift of Life” Program.
Closing out the trio of donations was a $27,500 check presented to Be the Match, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to creating an opportunity for patients to receive life-saving transplants.
“The tournament is a great time, and our participants love getting to meet people like Max Boatwright and Mrs. Earnestine Anderson, whose lives were saved as a direct result of their donations,” said Hogge.
