The Beaumont Foundation presented a check for $62,400 on Jan. 10 to Buckner Children and Family Services, part of nonprofit Buckner International. The amount is the first half of its pledged $124,800 donation for the year, which will be used to purchase new clothing for Texas children in foster care served by Buckner.

The check was presented by BFA Director of Grants Carol Eddins to Buckner Southeast Texas staff at the Buckner Children’s Village, which provides campus foster homes for children and foster families in Beaumont.

“The Beaumont Foundation’s annual donation is a wonderful way to start the new year,” said Laura May, the director of Buckner Children and Family Services in Southeast Texas. “Their gift of new clothes to children in foster care shows these kids that there are people who love and support them – and being able to provide that feeling is priceless.”

Since 2007, BFA has contributed more than $1.5 million towards helping Buckner provide clothing for children living in foster care in Beaumont and throughout Texas.

Buckner offers foster care and adoption services in Southeast Texas, North Texas, Houston, Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland, Longview, Lufkin and the Rio Grande Valley. BFA’s annual donation is distributed to families with foster children in these areas several times a year to help them purchase new clothing. The gift also provides new clothes for children who have first entered the foster care system with few belongings to their name.

Each year, May joins other Buckner staff and volunteers to take children in foster care shopping for their new clothes. “The Beaumont Foundation has helped bring smiles to the faces of vulnerable children for 13 years, and for that, we are extremely grateful.”

About the Beaumont Foundation of America

The Beaumont Foundation of America is committed to a broad continuum of giving across the United States. It continues to seek grantmaking opportunities that enrich the lives and enhance the futures of the less fortunate children and youth, families and the elderly. Through the support it provides, the Foundation fosters the development of knowledge, advances human welfare, nurtures individual creativity, strengthens institutions and contributes to the well-being of the less-fortunate in society. The Foundation believes its grantmaking is most effective when focused on relatively few areas of work, combined with sufficient resources to make a measurable difference. Through five program areas – Children and Youth Programs, Education, Health Care, Social Services and Foundation Initiated Grants – the Foundation funds organizations and projects that provide services to underserved and disenfranchised populations with the ultimate goal of improving quality of life.
