Beaumont mayor signs emergency order

Effective at 12 a.m. March 17, the Civic Center, Julie Rogers Theatre, Jefferson Theatre, Lakeside Center, Sterling Pruitt Center, Community Centers, Athletic Complex, Tennis Court and Municipal Court will be closed, according to an emergency declaration signed by Beaumont Mayor Becky Ames on March 16 citing growing concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. 

City Hall, libraries, the Henry Homberg Golf Course, Municipal Court and city parks will remain open for regular business. No special events will be held at these open city facilities.

“This provision does not intend to interfere with the conducting of public or private education.”

City Council is set to meet to discuss the matter March 23.
