CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System and the CHRISTUS Fund announced March 3 the donation of more than $302,000 to several local organizations working to improve the health and wellbeing of Southeast Texans. In total, 10 organizations specializing in programs ranging from food pantries to speech therapy centers will receive donations from the health system.

“We have a longstanding commitment to our community to provide services and programs that meet the needs of our underserved and vulnerable populations,” explains Paul Trevino, President and CEO of CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System. “We want to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ – not just in a health care setting – but in all aspects of the community.”

Since 2001, the CHRISTUS Fund, working as an extension of CHRISTUS Health’s Community Benefit program, has served to unite with the Southeast Texas community to find solutions that improve the health and wellbeing of the community. This is accomplished through grants to community-based organizations who are implementing transformative programs that respond to the expressed needs of our community.

The following is a listing of the grant recipients: United Christian Care Center of Vidor, Texas, Inc.; Surviving Parents of SETX; Garth House, Mickey Mehaffy Children’s Advocacy Program; St. Paul United Methodist Church Family Life Center; Hope Women’s Resource Clinic; Triangle Area Network, Inc.; Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeast Texas; Court Appointed Special Advocates of Southeast Texas; Capland Center for Communication Disorders, Inc.; and Stable-Spirit.

Paul Trevino, CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System President and CEO, and Dan Ford, CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System Vice President of Mission both addressed the organizations receiving grants at a presentation March 3. Chara Abrams, Director, Mission Integration & Community Benefit for CHRISTUS Health, also attended the event.
