LSCO cleaning up campus, restoring facilities post-Laura

Hurricane Laura swept through the Lamar State College Orange campus last week damaging facilities and shredding landscaping, but the college reports it is well on its way to recovery with plans to resume classes soon if power is restored in the expected timeframe.

According to LSCO, administrative staff has been working to assess the damage to the campus and determine the best plan of action for faculty, staff and students as they face the challenges of recovery post-Hurricane Laura.

“Our priority continues to be our Gator community's safety and well-being; therefore, we will resume the business operations of the campus on Wednesday, Sept. 9, and classes will resume for students on Monday, Sept. 14,” LSCO reported Aug. 31. The dates are subject to change if power is not restored to the area on or before Friday, Sept. 4, the date Entergy Texas has reported it expects to have area power restored. “While we understand that everyone will not be fully recovered from Hurricane Laura's devastation, please know that your Gator community is here to support you.”

Students and staff will receive a survey to help campus administrators better understand their needs and provide resources to assist them during this difficult time. LSCO has reportedly had a restoration crew, landscape crew, electricians and remediation workers on campus “to remediate and restore our campus back to its original beauty.”
