The Medical Center of Southeast Texas issued the following statement Oct. 1:

The Medical Center of Southeast Texas – Beaumont Campus has been maintained as a “COVID free facility” for inpatient and outpatient care.  Should a patient arrive at our ER with symptoms of COVID-19, or has already tested positive for the virus, we will assess and treat that individual accordingly in an isolated area.  Should that individual require hospitalization, we will transport him/her to a specialized COVID unit in our Port Arthur campus.

Great measures have been taken to provide our patients and staff a safe environment. Maintaining the Beaumont Campus as a COVID-free environment allows us to treat emergent injuries and scheduled surgeries with added peace of mind for patients and their families.

“We are dedicated to offering safe medical services in our community,” said Craig Desmond, President and CEO of The Medical Center of Southeast Texas. “Our duty as health care providers is to find new ways to safeguard all patients while caring for any COVID patients.  Our specialized COVID units in Port Arthur allow us to offer patients the Beaumont campus as a COVID-free environment.”

Governor Abbott’s order from Aug. 17, eased statewide restrictions on elective procedures. All elective procedures are ready to be scheduled, and our emergency room continues to be a safe place to treat all emergencies.

We fully adhere to the guidelines set forth by the city and state officials and are dedicated to exceptional health care in our community.
