Nederland City Manager Chris Duque announced June 24 that the city would be closing the public pool for two weeks following a positive case of COVID-19 of a pool employee.

According to Duque, the city was notified that one of two employees tested on June 21 had tested positive for the virus. Duque stated in a news release that the city could attempt to notify patrons who visited the pool between June 18-20 to inform them of the positive test so they may take necessary precautions, like getting tested or self-quarantining for two weeks to prevent potentially spreading the virus if they end up being infected, as recommended by the CDC. Symptoms in infected persons can manifest 2-14 days after exposure.

“The health and safety of the pool patrons and employees has always been a top priority and will continue to be so when the pool re-opens,” Duque stated in the release.

The Nederland Swimming Pool is scheduled to reopen on July 4.
