Nederland schools to provide free meals for students in coming school year

Nederland Independent School District announced July 30 that it would be offering free meals for all students in the 2021-22 school year, joining at least one other Southeast Texas school that previously announced its new policy. 

According to Nederland ISD, the new policy was made available by recent guidance issued by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Typically, a student’s household must meet income eligibility requirements to qualify for free or reduced-price meals, but the USDA has issued guidance that allows schools to offer meals to all students at no cost for the 2021-22 school year.
