Facility Director Tracie Craig greeted guests of Lamar University’s new Welcome Center, located at 1032 Jim Gilligan Way in Beaumont, on March 24 and provided a tour of the building that will serve as the college campus’ official “front door.”

Student staffers will be working at the new Welcome Center to provide information to incoming students, their families, alumni and even passersby who spot the center from the roadway and stop to learn more about LU and all it has to offer. Visitors to the center can learn about LU’s history, academic programs, athletics and student activities. It will be their first stop at LU and the starting point for campus tours. Craig said prospective students and their families can contact the Welcome Center for campus tours. Area schools have already started busing in potential future students to tour the campus, and she looks forward to helping them “envision their future with the Lamar University community."

“I’m excited to show off this campus space,” Craig said. “We’ve already started giving some tours.”

The 6,334-square-foot Welcome Center features a theater for presentations, staff offices, a workroom for the LU Crew – the students who lead campus tours, a beverage kiosk with coffee and water, a self-serve kiosk for guests who wish to enroll, original artwork, space for interactive displays and promotional materials and other attractive amenities to draw students to the university.
