The Board of Directors for The Southeast Texas Food Bank announced March 15 that, after an extensive search, they have named Barbara Newhouse as President and CEO of the organization.

The vision of the Food Bank is to eliminate hunger and inadequate nutrition in Southeast Texas. The mission of the Food Bank is leading the fight against hunger in Southeast Texas.

“We are delighted to have Barb join the Southeast Texas Food Bank as our President and CEO. As we continue to execute our strategic plan, we believe that her past professional experiences matched with her accomplishments and unique skillsets, make her the right choice as we continue our work in the fight against hunger in Southeast Texas,” said Board Chair Jeff Oliverio.

Newhouse has had an impressive career working for some of the most recognizable nonprofit organizations in the country in various leadership roles and levels of responsibility. Of note are her efforts as President and CEO of the ALS Association, leading the organization through many developments including the Ice Bucket Challenge. Other organizations she has worked with include the Children’s Heart Foundation, Arthritis Foundation, Autism Society, American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer’s Association, with which she worked for many years.

“I am honored and excited to join the Southeast Texas Food Bank as the President and CEO. I am delighted to be involved with an organization that has such a strong positive reputation with a terrific staff and solid board leadership,” said Newhouse. “I look forward to being a part of the Beaumont community as well as engaging with all eight counties served by the Food Bank. Together, we will continue to execute on our mission and make strides towards the ultimate vision of our organization.”

About 12,000 households receive food each month from member agencies of the Southeast Texas Food Bank, the organization reports. Counties served by the local Food Bank include Jefferson, Orange, Hardin, Jasper, Newton, Polk, Sabine and Tyler, through 127 agency partnerships and 51 schools.
