The Spindletop Center announced Dec. 17 that it has been certified as a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) for a period of three years, effective Dec. 1, by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).

This certification signifies Spindletop Center’s commitment to a high-quality level of care and accessibility, as well as the commitment to operating as an integrated behavioral health clinic that supports the Texas CCBHC Criteria and the Texas Statewide Behavioral Health Strategic Plan. To successfully achieve this certification, Spindletop Center established that its policies, procedures and staff supported the implementation and adoption of the Texas CCBHC criteria, as well as directly provide a set of nine core services and meet criteria in the six distinct categories of:

  • Availability and Accessibility of Services
  • Care Coordination
  • Scope of Services
  • Quality and Other Reporting
  • Staffing
  • Organizational Authority

“Spindletop Center put significant time and effort into reviewing and improving our systems of care to meet the high standards required of CCBHCs and I’m so pleased that we’ve achieved certification,” said Holly Borel, chief executive officer of Spindletop Center.

The Texas CCBHC Initiative links the CCBHC goals with Texas’ current Medicaid and behavioral health environment, demonstrating a commitment to using CCBHCs as a best practice in behavioral health settings. Spindletop Center began the process of becoming a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic in November 2020, and after a meticulous review process, now joins other certified clinics across the state of Texas. This allows Spindletop Center to continue the consistency of quality care and potentially take advantage of future funding opportunities with the state.

“But our work doesn’t stop with certification,” said Borel. “We will continue improvement efforts to ensure that we become a reliable resource, meeting the behavioral health needs of our local communities.”
