Spindletop Rotary Club of Beaumont recently inducted Chris Lanier as president for 2020-21 at the annual installation banquet, held this year via Zoom. Lanier received the gavel from outgoing president, Rene Latiolais.

“I’m excited to be taking on the role of club president for the Spindletop Rotary Club,” said Lanier. “I’m hoping to keep up the momentum started by all of my predecessors, increase membership, and find some ways to engage all members in some form or fashion. We are all called to serve, and the Spindletop Rotary Club is ready to answer that call.”

The 2020-21 Board of Directors includes Chris Lanier, president; Shannon Garrod, president-elect; Micah Leigh, vice president; Heather Kugler, secretary; Delayne Barrick, assistant secretary; Bobby Chapman, treasurer; and Rene Latiolais, past president.

Directors for the 2020-21 term are Roxanne Hellberg, Jo Bienvenu, Mike Bienvenu, Karen Chapman, Todd Dunkleberger, Troy Gray, Pierce Harrington, Gordon Langston and Sherry Wells.

Several Spindletop Rotary members were recognized for their achievements during 2019-20.

At the district level, Karen Chapman was added to the Roll of Fame for her tireless dedication to the Rotary mission.

The Jack Hauser award, given for outstanding work with the annual Soapbox Derby was given to Shannon Garrod and Heather Kugler.

Richard Carey and Pierce Harrington achieved Paul Harris Fellow Status. A special Paul Harris Fellow was awarded to Micah Leigh.

Rotarian of the Year honors went to Heather Kugler and Micah Leigh.

Spindletop Rotary works to promote diverse community involvement in a welcoming and supportive environment. During the COVID shutdown, Spindletop Rotary immediately began to hold virtual meetings and has been recognized by Rotary District 5910 for its success in doing so. While some groups are struggling with the changes, Spindletop Rotary has actually gained new members.

Spindletop invites anyone who is interested in community and world service to attend a meeting on Tuesdays at noon. Meetings are being held on Zoom until further notice. For more information, contact Spindletop Rotary through Facebook or send a message to spindletoprotaryclub@gmail.com.
