Spindletop Rotary Club partnered with Blanchette Elementary to host a book fair and provide a book for every student on campus.

It’s the second year for the club to partner with the campus for this project. Last year was split between two fairs: grades Pre-K-2 in the fall and 3-5 in the spring. This year, the book fair was held on one day for all students. Club members were on hand throughout the day to assist students with choosing a book.

Micah Leigh, Spindletop Rotary Immediate Past President, initiated a goal to provide a book for every student at Blanchette. Like last year, she submitted a grant to Rotary District 5910 and was awarded $3000; Spindletop Rotary matched the grant which enabled the club to purchase over 500 books.

“Reading is very important to me personally, so I’m thankful the club supports my vision,” said Leigh. “Promoting basic education and literacy is one of Rotary’s Seven Areas of Focus, so this project is a win-win for all involved. We love to encourage students to read. Seeing every child choose a book that they can keep for their home library warms my heart.”
