TALKE officially opens Recycling Support Center in Mont Belvieu
TALKE USA, Inc. announced its new Recycling Support Center, 10611 Langston Dr. in Mont Belvieu, officially opened Jan. 12, according to a press release.
Located directly next to TALKE’s headquarters, the center will contribute to advanced recycling and mechanical recycling efforts by aggregating post-consumer plastic. The materials will be received and formed into bales, then sorted and further processed at Cyclyx’s Houston-based Circularity Center and converted into ISCC-PLUS-certified recycling feedstock.
The Recycling Support Center will:
• Be a support arm for circular supply chains by aggregating post-consumer plastics
• Help grow mechanical and advanced recycling efforts in communities
• Provide new infrastructure and jobs in the city of Mont Belvieu
• Strengthen the area’s role in sustainable petrochemical logistics
“This achievement reflects the Chambers County Recycling Collaboration that made this project possible. Chambers County, the city of Mont Belvieu, our partners at Cyclyx, and our colleagues at ExxonMobil have been instrumental in helping us bring this vision to life,” Alexander Boehm, chief operating officer of TALKE USA, added.
TALKE, a global company headquartered in Hürth, Germany, operates two dozen worldwide locations, with a chemical logistics in Southeast Asia, Europe, Middle East, and North America
ExxonMobil kicks off the Baytown Refinery Reconfiguration Project
A major reconfiguration project will soon be under way at ExxonMobil’s Baytown complex that will reshape production capabilities and position the business for long-term success in a changing energy landscape, according to announcement by the company Jan. 20.
The strategic investment reportedly is planned to start up in 2028 and will support the continued delivery of essential energy products while allowing greater flexibility to meet future demand.
The company stated, as gasoline demand declines over time, the need for high quality base stocks and liquid fuels, especially diesel, will remain strong. The investment allows ExxonMobil to shift production toward these higher-value products. Specifically, the investment enables the expansion of the product offering to include high-quality Group III base stocks, key building blocks for lubricants. As a result, ExxonMobil will be the only supplier offering the full range of Group I-V base stocks.
ExxonMobil reported its Product Solutions portfolio is highly integrated, with more than 80% of sites having co-located refining and petrochemical operations — an advantage that improves profitability, and reduces costs.
The company stated the investment in Baytown secures local construction jobs, supports economic growth, and highlights the long-term value of assets.
Port of Galveston awarded $8.2M in mobility and transportation grants
The Galveston Wharves announced they received $8.178 million in state and federal funding to improve mobility and pedestrian and traffic safety in and around the port.
A $340,000 federal grant funded a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan to identify and address roadway safety concerns on and adjacent to port property. Recommendations include improvements to roadways, intersections, traffic signals and pedestrian crossings.
The port will use a $2.83 million Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) grant to fund the first round of projects. Work will include accessibility ramps, lighting, traffic controls, pavement markings and signs, where needed, at eight intersections on Harborside Drive between 14th and 25th Streets.
The U.S. Department of Transportation has also awarded a $408,000 grant to build upon the Comprehensive Safety Action Plan. Consultants will evaluate the benefits of additional intersection improvements, traffic calming features, wayfinding, bike lanes, and sidewalks to improve safety for pedestrians and vehicles in and around the port.
TxDOT also awarded a $1.6 million grant to design and install signage like that at Cruise Terminal 10 at the port’s three other cruise terminals to enhance traffic flow.
