New paint hangar planned for Lake Charles airport

Chennault International Airport, 3650 Senator J. Bennett Johnston Ave., announced Feb. 11 it is moving forward to build its new paint hangar to promote more aviation jobs for the community and state.

The effort, reportedly, is the culmination of over five years of aggressive and dedicated efforts on the airport’s part to acquire state and federal dollars to augment its own insertion of funding to make this complex hangar build a reality.

Airport Executive Director Kevin Melton said local contractor Alfred Palma won the bid for the new paint hangar. The anticipated tenant, LandLocked Aviation Services, which will produce 104 jobs within the first three years of occupancy.

He said the $18,582,000 project is anticipated to produce more than 100 construction jobs for the local community and state across the 14- to 16-month project.

Chennault International Airport is a public aerospace/industrial complex in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and the facility covers 1,310 acres of land and the main runway is, at 10,702 feet, among the longest along the Gulf Coast.

Company announce $2.9B expansion

LyondellBasell has approved a $2.9 billion expansion at its Channelview Complex that includes a new metathesis unit (ethylene into propylene conversion) and the addition of more than 400,000 metric tons per year of propylene.

The construction is expected to start in the third quarter of 2026 and startup date is in late 2028. It is estimated to create about 750 construction jobs and about 25 full-time positions post-startup.
