Facility enters final stages of testing ahead of 2026 completion
Construction on Entergy Texas’ Orange County Advanced Power Station (OCAPS) is entering its final phase, marking a major milestone in the delivery of affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy for Southeast Texas, according to a news release.
The company noted construction is more than 80% complete and the overall project has reached 90% completion, keeping OCAPS on schedule to begin serving customers in the summer of 2026.
“We’re incredibly excited to see this project entering its final stretch,” said Keith Pollock, project director. “Our team has worked diligently to keep construction on track, and we’re proud of the progress being made every day. As we move into the last phase, we’re focused on safely delivering a facility that will serve this region for decades.”
Once operational, the OCAPS will generate approximately 1,215 megawatts of power, producing enough energy to power reportedly the equivalent of 230,000 homes.
The facility will also allegedly support economic growth across Southeast Texas while helping reduce emissions through modern, fuel-efficient technology.
“This facility is a cornerstone of our strategy to modernize our infrastructure and provide reliable and more sustainable power,” said Jim Malain, Entergy Texas customer service manager. “Its fuel efficiency will generate more than $1 billion in savings for our customers during its lifetime, making a real difference in the communities we serve.”

Entergy top utility in economic development for 18th year in a row
For the 18th consecutive year, Site Selection magazine has named Entergy a “Top Utility” in economic development.
The communities Entergy serve host some of the largest and most power-intensive industries in the United States. In 2024, Entergy Texas helped secure more than $20.9 billion in capital investments and create more than 1,500 new jobs within Southeast Texas, the magazine detailed.
“Being recognized as a top utility in economic development reflects our ongoing commitment to powering progress and growth across Southeast Texas,” said Ernest L. Peeples, vice president of Business and Economic Development for Entergy Texas. “We’re strengthening the region’s infrastructure, attracting new business investments and creating jobs to drive economic activity that benefits all Texans in the region.”
In addition to creating jobs, Entergy’s projects are expected to generate increased tax revenues for state and local governments, leading to better schools, roads and public facilities for residents and their families, the assessment supoorted.
Site Selection magazine assesses each utility’s job-creating infrastructure and facility investment trends, innovative programs and incentives for businesses and website tools and data.
