The Port of Beaumont announced Sept. 23 that it was recently awarded $127,043 in federal funding by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Port Security Grant Program (PSGP). The grant will fund a portion of two major security projects that will upgrade the Port’s video surveillance capabilities and enhance the cybersecurity system. These projects are complementary to the projects approved as part of the 2020 PSGP, which are currently underway.
“Upgrading and enhancing our security capabilities on a regular basis ensures we are using the best technology available to keep our port safe,” said Director of Facilities, Security and Emergency Management, Randal Ogrydziak.
In total, the 2021 Port Security Grant Program awarded $100 million to 288 eligible applicants, including port authorities, facility operators and state and local government agencies, to help protect port infrastructure from terrorism, enhance maritime domain awareness, improve port-wide maritime security risk management and maintain or reestablish maritime security mitigation protocols that support port recovery and resiliency efforts. The intent of the FY 2021 PSGP is to competitively award grant funding to assist ports in securing the resources needed to support the development and sustainment of core capabilities identified in the National Preparedness Goal of a secure and resilient nation. This year, Southeast Texas was the beneficiary of eight PSGP grants totaling $5,976,153.
