Small business owners and solopreneurs looking to improve their online visibility are invited to attend "How to Create and Optimize Your Google Business Profile," a hands-on workshop designed to help businesses stand out in Google Search and Google Maps where customers are actively looking, according to a press release by the Lamar State College Port Arthur Small Business Development Center (LSCPA SBDC).
The workshop is Tuesday, Jan. 27 at the Port Arthur Public Library, Lucy Stiefel Gallery, 4615 9th Ave. Lunch will be provided for participants who register in advance. The workshop is presented by Motiva.
The step-by-step session will walk participants through creating a Google Business Profile using the right keywords, categories, and settings to get the most value from this free and powerful tool. Attendees will learn how to properly set up their profile, avoid common mistakes, and ensure their business appears in local search results and Google Maps.
“This workshop gives small business owners practical tools they can use immediately to improve their visibility online,” said Dana Espinal, MBA, director of the Lamar State College Port Arthur SBDC. “When customers are searching on Google, we want local businesses to be easy to find, easy to trust, and positioned to grow.”
The workshop also includes a brief introduction to Google Workspace, highlighting how tools like professional email and digital organization can help businesses operate more efficiently and present a credible, professional brand online.
Building on these fundamentals, the session will cover best practices for optimizing a Google Business Profile, including:
• Claiming, verifying, and completing a Google Business Profile
• Choosing the correct business name, categories, keywords, and attributes
• Adding photos, services, and descriptions that support search visibility
• Understanding customer reviews, the Local Pack, and online trust signals
• Using updates and posts for ongoing engagement and visibility
By the end of the workshop, participants will have a clear understanding of how to build, optimize, and maintain a strong Google presence that helps their business get found, chosen, and trusted by local customers.
