The McFaddin-Ward House (MWH) invites Southeast Texas social studies and history teachers, school administrators, and school board members to a History Open House at the MWH Visitor Center on Thursday, Oct. 28 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Guests will get a behind-the-scenes look at the MWH, as well as the current traveling exhibit, Apron Strings: Ties to the Past, which reevaluates the common apron’s historic, cultural, and artistic significance in society.

“We want to acknowledge our educators’ dedication to our community during this difficult period, and at the same time, share with them the educational resources available through the McFaddin-Ward House collections,” Rayanna Hoeft, Director of Educational Programming, said. “The McFaddin-Ward House is dedicated to serving as an educational resource for the region, and we are currently developing school tours, educator professional development programming, outreach programs, and volunteer opportunities for both students and adults.”

Hoeft and Victoria Tamez, MWH Curator of Collections, will be on-site to receive input from area educators regarding their classroom needs, and to preview educational offerings of the MWH. Complimentary snacks and beverages will be served.

Those who wish to attend should RSVP by emailing mcfaddinwardhouse@gmail.com or calling (409) 832-1906. Admission is free with teacher/educator ID.

Built in 1905-1906 in the distinctive Beaux-Arts Colonial style, the McFaddin-Ward House reflects the lifestyle of the prominent family which lived in the house for seventy-five years. The museum features docent-led tours of the home, year-round events, a carriage house, and gardens. For more information, visit mcfaddin-ward.org or call (409) 832-1906.
