CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System is recognized as one of the most socially responsible health care systems in the country, according to a new report released this week.
Two hospitals within the health care system received an A grade on the 2025-26 Lown Institute Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility, based on over 50 measures, including community benefits, cost efficiency and patient satisfaction: CHRISTUS Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth and CHRISTUS Jasper Memorial.
In the last fiscal year, CHRISTUS Southeast Texas spent $39.58 million on community benefits for the southeast Texas region, including charity care and community services. Charity care is a CHRISTUS program dedicated to helping qualifying patients pay for their accrued medical bills.
“What truly sets us apart is our mission and values,” said Kevin Parsley, chief operating officer for CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System. “It’s a privilege to serve and support those in need across our region. We remain committed to investing in our communities as we continue to carry out the healing ministry of Jesus Christ.”
As part of the CHRISTUS Community Impact Fund, in the upcoming fiscal year, five organizations will be awarded funds to help fulfill their mission: Anayat House, Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas, Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeast Texas, The Salvation Army of Jefferson County and Triangle Area Network. These organizations work to address critical social determinants of health in the community.
The CHRISTUS Community Impact Fund launched in 2011 and is a CHRISTUS Health initiative supporting programs led by local organizations responding to the needs of the community and improving its health and well-being. In the past fiscal year, CHRISTUS Health has invested more than $454 million in all the communities it serves across Texas, Louisiana and New Mexico.
“There’s still important work to be done,” Parsley said. “Local support means local impact and that’s how CHRISTUS Health continues to strengthen our communities.”
